Did you know that:
  • Drowning is the # 1 leading cause of accidental deaths among children under the age of 5?  
  • By far, swimming was the activity that most often led to drowning? 
  • Last year in Houston, there were 49 drowning deaths among kids up to 14 years of age?
300 people drown in Texas every year and four times that many nearly drown. In Houston there is a drowning death every other day between May 1st and August 31st.

 Learn CPR.
Talk to adults that are caring for your child around water.
 Enroll children in Swim Lessons.

Set
 Never leave your child alone near a pool, spa, bathtub,
toilet, bucket or any standing water in which a child?s
nose or mouth may be submerged.
 Assign an adult as "water watcher" who is committed to
supervising the pool area.
 Have phone access near the water area.

Save!
Call 911.
Throw! Don?t go. Throw rescue equipment to the victim.
Begin CPR.
